I just like this picture so it's going in as my photo of the day. This are my two new chickens who are all curious about their new home. Unfortunately they're not being allowed to explore it as they'd like as the older two are being rather defensive over their home, but hopefully they'll settle in and be accepted! I put them up on the chair so that they had a bit of personal space.

This photo doesn't have spades of technical appeal but I just couldn't resist. My two darlings have both gone broody (meaning they're trying to hatch eggs, even though the eggs aren't fertilised and I remove them anyway), and while it's not good for me as it means no eggs, it's quite sweet watching them try to be mummies, and funny to watch them attempt it in the same nest box. Pepper, the darker one, has been broody for 2 months and took to it quite naturally, she readily goes for her daily feed and defecate when I lift her off the nest and throw her down the stairs. Coriander has just started and looks like she doesn't quite understand what's going on, bless her. If I lift her off the nest and put her somewhere else, she just squats down again and resumes her broody pose. The first day I pushed her down the stairs like I do Pepper to make sure she went for some food, and she fell down in surprise as she was still trying to squat, what a little sweetie!

I left it a little too late for photography today so I must confess this one was taken after midnight (I was recovering after a non-stop week, but it should be a slightly less hectic week this coming week so normal service resumes now). Two items you wouldn't normally see together but it evolved from a completely different idea, as is often the way. I like the simplicity and minimal colour palette, not my usual style.

I tried a little experimenting with a slow shutter speed and car headlights, but it requires more time to find a good location and a day where it isn't raining and I can get more than 2 snaps before the lens is covered in raindrops. So instead I'm treating you to a photo of my gorgeous babies Coriander and Peppper. For those of you not versed in chicken speak, the mood here is one of 'let me out of the coop you mean mummy, if you're going to abandon us for 3 days we want some attention when you get back!'
